A man with anger problems will have to address them while he?s out on probation.
David Poisson pleaded guilty in early March to threatening to injure his wife. The couple has now separated and he has moved to eastern Ontario.
Poisson, 45, was sentenced Monday to 18 months of probation. During this time he must accept anger management counselling and not have any contact
with his wife except with the written permission of his probation officer.
When Poisson threatened his wife with harm, he was on probation for a previous assault against her and was ordered not to have any contact with her.
Assistant Crown attorney Roberta Bald said Poisson admitted to drinking three or four jugs of beer before this latest incident.
He blames his wife for causing financial hardship in their marriage and other problems. He does take responsibility for his behaviour, she said.
The wife told the court she doesn?t fear her husband and wants to maintain a decent relationship with him because of their two children.
?The most important thing is he needs to get help for his anger,? she said. ?Our kids need him.?
Defence counsel Charles Conroy said Poisson admits to having a bad temper, but has also suffered severe frustration because of his marriage.
Poisson has ?moved on with his life,? realizes his marriage is over, but wants to continue to be able to be a big part of his children?s lives, said Conroy.
Before Justice Yvon Renaud sentenced him, Poisson said he was sorry for what happened, but said his wife caused him financial ruin and the situation with his children has been difficult.
Renaud said it was obvious Poisson must address counselling for anger management. When given the chance to apologize in court, he instead again chose to blame his wife.
