At approximately 2:40 pm, members of the Sudbury and Espanola OPP Detachments responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17 at Sleepy Hollow Road, City of Greater Sudbury.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a westbound car crossed the centre line and struck an eastbound mini van head-on.  The lone female occupant, who is from the Beaver Lake area, driving the car was air lifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sudbury and suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.  The two female occupants in the mini van, who are from the Manitoulin Island area, were transported by land ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sudbury and both suffered minor injuries.

Sudbury and Espanola Fire Departments attended the scene as all three occupants had to be extricated from the vehicles.

The highway had to be closed in both directions for about 1.5 hours until the occupants were extricated as well as for the air ambulance to land and for the clean up of the debris on the roadway.

The highway fully re-opened in both directions at 4:30 pm.

Road and weather conditions were not a factor in this collision and the investigation is continuing.
