A resident of the Central Manitoulin Township was arrested and charged on April 30, after being spotted by police en route to a call placed for their behaviour.

On April 30 at 7:10 p.m. a call was made to the Ontario Provincial Police Manitoulin Detachment for service to a residence in the township.

While responding alongside the Sudbury-Manitoulin Emergency Services, officers spotted a suspicious vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Unable to stop the vehicle, the officers continued to respond to the original call and located the same suspicious driver upon arrival.

Officers spoke with the driver and it was determined that alcohol had been consumed.

As a result of the investigation a 41-year-old resident of Central Manitoulin Township has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand, contrary to section 320.15 (1) of the CC
  • Flight from Peace Officer-Pursuit, contrary to section 320.17 of the CC

The accused has since been released with a promise to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on July 29.
