A 22-year-old man arrested by Greater Sudbury Police Oct. 10 at around 7 a.m. allegedly had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The police had received a tip from the public about a possible impaired driver on Frood Road. Officers found the vehicle bearing the license plate reported by the concerned citizen, and tried to stop the vehicle.

However, the driver tried to evade by police “by driving around a marked police cruiser at excessive speeds while the roof emergency lights were activated,” stated a press release from the police.

“The driver then attempted to evade a second police vehicle by making a turn. The driver continued to drive in an erratic manner. Fortunately for the police and the public, the driver ended up turning down a dead end street, where he was apprehended.”

The suspect has been charged with impaired driving, exceeding the legal limit and failing to stop for police. He was due to appear in bail court Oct. 11.
