Local businesswoman fined

The Copper Cliff woman pleaded guilty to not filing corporate tax returns from 2003 to 2005 in Sudbury Court last Wednesday. She was fined a total of $3,000, and given 12 months to pay. In addition, Vallis must pay the full amount of tax owing, plus interest, and any other penalties the Canada Revenue Agency assesses.

All outstanding tax returns have since been filed.

Anyone who doesn't file a personal, corporate, or GST/HST return as required is guilty of an offence. On summary conviction, that person or corporation is subject to a fine between $1,000 and $25,000, as well as the possibility of up to 12 months of imprisonment for each count.
