Updated: March 27, 3:20 p.m.

A domestic disturbance that turned violent Monday evening has left two people in hospital with serious injuries.

Greater Sudbury Police were called to a residence on Pine Street at around 8:25 p.m. on March 26, but this wasn't the first time officers had to respond to an incident at the home.

According to a neighbour who didn't want her name published, the male occupant of the residence at 573 Pine St. had been removed from the property following a domestic disturbance just days earlier.

"Police escorted him from the home a few days ago after a domestic incident," said the neighbour. "It's his place but the girl was still staying there and I guess things escalated and he came back."

The neighbour said she was thankful for the response of a pair of young men in their early 20's who were first to arrive on the scene when they heard calls for help coming from inside of the home.

"He came out of there and was chasing these guys down the street with a knife," she said. "The girl was out on the street and bleeding badly, I had to get my son away from our window because I didn't want him seeing that."

Both the 27-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were transported to hospital, where they remain with serious injuries. The two men who responded to the woman's calls for help were not harmed in the incident.

"In this case we definitely commend the brave actions of the individuals involved, however we never recommend that community members intervene in any type of violent altercation and that they call the police," said GSPS spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn.

Greater Sudbury Police Services will be providing updates on this incident with regards to charges being laid. Sudbury.com will provide updates as that information becomes available.

Original story:

Monday evening proved to be both disturbing and dangerous for some residents on Pine Street in the city’s West End.

Around 8:25 p.m. on March 26, 2018, police were called to 573 Pine Street on a domestic disturbance call. Police said callers reported a man was harming himself with a knife.

Neighbours overheard a disturbance coming from the building and attempted to gain entry into the apartment. They were met at the door by a 27-year-old brandishing a knife, who chased them out of the building and down the street, before returning back to his residence.

The neighbours returned to the residence a short time later, only to find a 22-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds lying on the ground, and the man who chased them continuing to harm himself with the knife.

Both the man and the woman were transported to Health Sciences North, where they remain in serious condition.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Police at 705-675-9171 and ask for the Criminal Investigations Division.
