One man is in custody following the City of Greater SudburyÂ?s first murder in 2003.

Keith MacDonald, 43, died from stab wounds to the chest. His death is being treated as a homicide investigation, said Greater Sudbury Police Staff Sgt. Todd Zimmerman.

The police serviceÂ?s forensic identification team worked at the scene collecting evidence for several hours after being called to the scene.

The man in custody is the chief suspect in MacDonaldÂ?s death, but police have not released his name, as criminal charges had not been filed as of early Wednesday evening, said Zimmerman.

Â?The suspect was arrested at the sceneÂ?heÂ?s the only suspect right now,Â? said Zimmerman. Â?If heÂ?s charged, we will be releasing his name.Â?

Police were called to an apartment block at 130 King St. in the Flour Mill around 1 am Wednesday morning.

MacDonaldÂ?s body was found inside a unit on the main floor.

The police serviceÂ?s forensic identification team worked at the scene collecting evidence for several hours after being called to the scene.

A young man who lives in the same apartment block, who didnÂ?t want to be identified, told Northern Life Wednesday afternoon he didnÂ?t know any details of what transpired or anything about the deceased or suspect.

Â?This is a pretty quiet building almost all of the time,Â? he said. Â?I came out of my apartment at around 1 am last night and the yard was full of police.

Â?No one around here that I know knows anything about what happened. I was just told by the police that they couldnÂ?t tell me anything and to go back inside my own place.Â?

The young father of two said he didnÂ?t hear any disturbance and had never met the man who had moved into the downstairs apartment.

Â?I believe he had just moved in at the beginning of the month,Â? he said. Â?I had never met him. I donÂ?t know who he is.Â?

While his building is quiet most of the time, the neighbourhood he lives in is Â?pretty rough at times,Â? he said.

Â?This is typical for this part of town,Â? he said. Â?ItÂ?s too bad someone had to die like this.Â?

As a father of two young children, this incident bothers him, but doesnÂ?t mean heÂ?s afraid, he said.

Â?It just looks like a couple of guys got into a dispute and something bad happened,Â? he said.

Â?ItÂ?s really too bad, but IÂ?m not afraid.Â?
