A two-vehicle accident involving a school bus on Highway 17 west of Hagar around 8:30 a.m. has left one man in hospital.

An eastbound car crossed the centre line and struck the side of a westbound school bus, which was full of students. The bus driver lost control but managed to keep the bus on its wheels and bring it to a stop across both lanes of traffic.

The car came to rest in the south ditch and the driver, a man from Verner, was transported to St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Sudbury by ambulance and suffers serious but non-life threatening injuries.

One student on the bus was treated by Paramedics at the scene and released.  All students were then transferred onto another bus and taken to school in Markstay.

The highway was closed but re-opened around 11:30 in both directions on travel.

Members of the Warren Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police remain at the scene of the collision, between Markstay and Hagar (five kilometers west of Hagar).

The investigation is continuing.
