A Sudbury man caught with a large amount of disturbing child pornography was sentenced to six months in jail Thursday on top of the five months he's already spent behind bars.

Wray Edward D'Arcy, 57, was also sentenced for two historical sexual assaults where he fondled young girls on several occasions. After he's released from prison, D'Arcy will be placed on probation for three years and he's to not have any contact with his victims.

His computer and all software and images discovered by police will be destroyed.

As well, D'Arcy will be placed on a national sex offender registry for 20 years. He was also ordered to submit a DNA sample for a national crime data bank and prohibited from owning weapons for the duration of his probation.

Several young people who were in court to support D'Arcy's victims left the court in tears as assistant Crown attorney Julie Lefebvre read in an agreed statement of facts over the disturbing images involving child pornography found at D'Arcy's residence.

Lefebvre told the court one of the historical sexual assaults involved D'Arcy straddling a young girl age 14 and fondling her breasts. The girl was warned not to tell anyone what happened back in 1996.

About 20 years ago, D'Arcy pleaded guilty to fondling a former babysitter, who he repeatedly made sexual advances against, said Lefebvre.

A common practice was for D'Arcy to place money the girl earned for babysitting in her bra and then fondle her breasts. On other occasions, he insisted the girl expose her breasts before he would agree to pay her for babysitting services.

During the raid of D'Arcy's residence, police found hundreds of video files of adults engaged in disturbing sexual acts with young children, said Lefebvre.

Defense counsel John Saftic said his client wanted to avoid doing any further damage to his victims and it took some time to draft an agreed statement of facts.

Lefebvre said this case involved a lot of child pornography and the courts must send a clear message adults who possess it will pay a heavy price.

"If there's a demand...people will continue to make this stuff," she said.

"There has to be a clear message sent you will go to jail if you possess child pornography."
