Friends and family have organized a memorial service to remember and honour Sean McNamara.

McNamara?s family held a private funeral service Thursday. McNamara?s body was found on Ramsey Lake early last Sunday morning.

Greater Sudbury Police have arrested David Allen Batemen, 37, and charged him with first-degree murder after an autopsy confirmed McNamara died as a result of a gunshot wound to the stomach.

McNamara?s memorial service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Lockerby Branch 564 on Saturday, Feb. 26. The event will start at noon and is expected to last to about 5 pm.

?We?re getting catering for 200 people and we hope to get at least that many people,? said a good friend of McNamara?s, who is organizing the special
event. ?We want anyone who knew Sean to come out and say a few words.?

A similar memorial service is being held in Toronto on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 216 Beverly St., home of the Showman?s League of America.

McNamara was a member of the Showman?s League of America, the union that represents workers in the travelling carnival business across Canada and the United States.

People who wish to donate food or other material for McNamara?s memorial service are being asked to contact Wanda at 560-8167.

McNamara is survived by his daughter Clarazoe, 16, mother Katherine, sister Eileen and brothers Thomas, Kevin and Alan.

Bateman made a brief appearance in bail court Wednesday. His lawyer Glenn Sandberg asked for his client to be remanded in custody for one week.

Sandberg said he needs more time to meet with his client and receive information from the Crown?s office in order to prepare for a bail hearing.

Any bail hearing for those charged with murder must he heard before a superior court judge.

It?s not expected Batemen will have a bail hearing for several weeks.

He will remain in custody at the Sudbury district jail.
