UPDATE: Highway 17 near Whitefish reopens after crash

UPDATE:

Highway 17 approximately three kilometres west of the four-lane section at Whitefish has re-opened to traffic.


ORIGINAL:

A multi-vehicle accident has closed Hwy. 17 three kilometres west of Whitefish, the Sudbury detatchment of the OPP said Saturday.

"The OPP have initiated the closure of Highway 17 west of Whitefish as a result of a multi-vehicle collision," police said in a news release Saturday evening.

"Police and ambulance crews are on scene. Collision investigators are en route."

It's not known  how many vehicles were involved or the cause of the crash, the OPP said. However, four people are believed to have received minor injuries, while a fifth person received more serious injuries. There were no fatalities.

The call came in at 5:30 p.m. It's not know how long the road will be closed. Police will have more information once collision investigators complete their work.
