No foul play indicated but cause of death still unknown for body found in Lily Creek

Additional tests being done to determine how he died

Additional tests are being conducted to determine the cause of death for the body of a 19-year-old male found in Lily Creek on Monday.

Around 1 p.m. March 5, police received a call that a human body had been spotted in Lily Creek, behind Beverly Drive, which lies off of Martindale Road.

EMS arrived on scene first, police report, and when paramedics reached the body, they could tell the person was already deceased. Firefighters helped retrieve the body and bring it to shore.

Identification found in the teen's backpack matched that of the body, and police were able to confirm the owner of the backpack and the body were the same person, a 19-year-old from Greater Sudbury.

Police will not be releasing his name "as we are respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult and emotional time," GSPS said in a news release.

On March 6, a ground search of the area was conducted by members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service Search and Rescue Unit, Rural Community Response Unit, Tactical Unit and Uniform Patrol. The zodiac boat from Ice/Water Rescue 1 was provided by Greater Sudbury Fire Services in order to search the creek, police said.

That work is now completed and police have released the scene.

A post-mortem exam by the Coroner’s Office found there was no trauma to the young man’s body and additional tests are being done to determine how he died.

Police said investigators were able to confirm the 19-year-old was last seen less than 12 hours before his body was found. Police continue to assist in what has become a coroner’s investigation. No foul play is indicated and police said in a release to media there is no threat to public safety.
