Updated Feb. 3 at 12:21 p.m.: Greater Sudbury Police now say a fatal stabbing that occurred last night in the area of Cabot Street and Hearn Avenue near the Cambrian Heights neighbourhood is being investigated as a homicide.

In an 11:30 a.m. tweet, the police service said officers remain on scene in the area and a search warrant is being executed at a property. 

Police have not released the name of the victim or of the person taken into custody last night in relation to the incident.

A 20-year-old man is dead following a stabbing in the area of Cabot Street and Hearn Avenue on the night of Feb. 2.

Last evening at around 8 p.m., Greater Sudbury Police and Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services were dispatched to the area regarding a weapons complaint.

Upon arrival, first responders found a 20-year-old man with stab wounds. He was transported to Health Sciences North, where he was later pronounced deceased.

“Detectives from our Major Crimes Section of the Criminal Investigations Division have commenced a homicide investigation,” GSPS said in a news release.

A person was taken into custody for a court appearance this morning.

“The identity of this party will not be released before the court appearance,” police said.

Residents in the area can expect officers to remain on scene for some time, GSPS added.

The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of the man’s next-of-kin.  

There is no ongoing threat to public safety, GSPS said.
