Speeding 50+ km/hr over speed limit – Driver charged

On Oct. 23 at 7 am, while patrolling on Hwy 17, Lorne Township, officers clocked an eastbound vehicle on radar travelling at 156 km/hr in a posted 90 km/hr zone. The vehicle was stopped and a 19-year-old male driver from Nairn Centre was charged with operating a vehicle on a highway while performing a stunt. He was issued a seven day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in Espanola Court on Dec. 13.

House fire – Nairn Twp.

On Oct. 25 at 3:55 pm, OPP officers and Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire on Hwy 17, Nairn Twp. The fire is believed to have started with a pot of oil left on the stove. A woman was treated at Espanola General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Missing hunter located

On Oct. 26 at 8:00 pm, Espanola OPP officers were advised that an elderly couple left at 4:30 am that morning to go hunting on the West Branch Rd., Shakespeare Township and had not yet returned. While officers were making arrangements to commence a search with the K9 handler, they received a call advising that both parties had just returned, in good health and did not require any assistance.

Impaired driver charged– Massey

On Oct. 27 at 2:30 am, Espanola OPP officers conducted a traffic stop on Imperial St. in Massey after a vehicle failed to stop at the red light. Officer stopped the vehicle and found the driver to be impaired and arrested him. Charged with impaired driving and over 80 is Keith Stunden, 44, of Webbwood. He will appear in Espanola Court on Dec. 4.

Another impaired driver charged – Baldwin Twp.

On Oct. 28 at 6:10 pm, officers received a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver eastbound on Hwy 17, Baldwin Township. Sudbury officers located and stopped the vehicle on the four-lane section of Hwy 17 and determined the driver had been drinking. The driver, Christopher Greenman, 36, of Barrie was arrested and charged with impaired driving, over 80 and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor. He will appear in Sudbury Court on Dec. 12.

Theft of gas from riding lawnmower – McKerrow

Sometime between Oct. 15 and 24, unknown person(s) stole gas from a riding lawnmower stored in a garage on Hardwood Rd., McKerrow. The investigation is continuing and if anyone has any information in regards to this theft, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the Espanola OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Assualt charges laid for child abuse

On October 26th, 2007, following an investigation into a complaint of child abuse, Espanola OPP officers have charged a man and a woman with several assault charges.

Another impaired driver charged – Massey

On Oct. 27 at 2:30 am, while on patrol in the town of Massey, officers stopped a vehicle on Front St. and found the driver had been drinking. The driver, Andrew Lees, 31, of Massey was arrested and is charged with impaired driving and over 80. He will appear in Espanola Court on Dec. 4.

Drug trafficking charges laid – Webbwood

On Oct. 27, following an investigation into possible drug trafficking, Espanola OPP officers conducted a search warrant at a residence in Webbwood. Charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a controlled substance is Sandra Sandiford, 31, of Webbwood. She will appear in Espanola Court on Dec. 12.
