OPP investigating fatal Sept. 30 crash on Hwy 144

Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a Sept. 30 crash on Highway 144 that left one person dead.

Nipissing West OPP, Greater Sudbury Police, Greater Sudbury Fire Services and Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services were dispatched to the scene of the collision on Highway 144 near Dowling at around 5 p.m. that evening.

“The driver of one vehicle, a 45-year-old-person from Rayside-Balfour, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” OPP said. 

Two passengers from the second vehicle were transported by paramedics to Health Sciences North with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions for just under seven hours to allow members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (T.I.M.E.) to attend and assist in the investigation. That investigation is still ongoing.
