Ontario Provincial Police at West Nipissing detachment have filed numerous charges against four Southern Ontario men after using a spike belt to stop a speeding vehicle.

Police said the incident occurred on March 28 before the Easter long weekend when OPP officers in Kirkland Lake attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Highway 11.

The vehicle sped away southbound.

Some time later, said police, the suspect vehicle was spotted travelling south on Highway 64 near Field. Police deployed a Tire Deflation Device (TDD), otherwise known as a spike belt, which was successful in bringing the vehicle to a stop.

While police arrested the driver, three passengers fled into a nearby wooded area, said the news release.

Police initiated a search for the three runners using the OPP K9 Unit, the Emergency Response Team, the Snowmobile, ATV and Vessel Enforcement (S.A.V.E.) Unit and OPP Aviation unit.

The three other individuals were subsequently located and arrested in an isolated cabin, police said.

The OPP news release said all four suspects were held for Bail Court and were scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 2 in North Bay.
