Plain clothes officers witness drug deal

A 24-year-old man is facing trafficking charges after plain clothes officers with the Greater Sudbury Police Street Crime Unit caught him selling marijuana to a 23-year-old man in the Flour Mill area Feb. 26 around 4 p.m.

Both men were arrested. The seller is facing charges of trafficking and breaching his probation. The second man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and breach of probation. The officers seized 77 grams of marijuana, which a street value of $770.

The younger man was also wanted in relation to a robbery, which occurred on Feb. 11 at 159 Louis Street in Sudbury. The man, and a second suspect, entered the residence of an acquaintance and confronted the acquaintance and his fiancé with knives and demanded money. After obtaining the money, the suspects removed a large flat screen television and fled the area.

As a result of this incident, the 23-year-old man involved in the drug deal is also facing charges of robbery.

Both men attended a video bail hearing and were remanded to District Jail until Bail Court Monday morning.

Police have identified the second party involved in the robbery as Terry James Mumford, 24. Mumford is described as 5-10, 190 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes. He has six tattoos — the most noticeable being a Chinese symbol on his neck, as well as a tattoo of a question mark on his left hand. There is a warrant for his arrest for the charges of robbery, weapons dangerous and theft.
