Police advise public on anonymity

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is reminding members of the public that when they call to report a crime and they contact the police through the regular service telephone numbers, they should specify if they wish to remain anonymous.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is reminding members of the public that when they call to report a crime and they contact the police through the regular service telephone numbers, they should specify if they wish to remain anonymous.

However, there are circumstances where the police will not be able to guarantee anonymity. When the police investigate many crimes, they require independent witnesses.

The witness's information generally enhances their investigation. In such cases, the police will generally request a statement from the person who has been deemed as a witness to the crime.

Should members of the public wish to contact the Crime Stoppers program, it can be accessed by calling 675-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-222-TIPS.

Members of the public are urged to contact the police and/or Crime Stoppers when they wish to report a crime, as their co-operation is essential.
