Greater Sudbury Police are cautioning members of the public who shop and purchase items of the Internet to use extreme caution.

There are items available over the Internet that are illegal in Canada, say police. People who have questions about purchases they are considering buying over the Internet should contact their local police service.

Recently, local officers responded to a complaint of two prohibited weapons that were ordered over the Internet. The items had been previously intercepted by Customs Canada and the local resident had been advised, say police.

Local officers paid a visit of educating the individual involved and to determine where the weapons were purchased.

Police are urging anyone who may have purchased similar items to contact police and seek information about their status. If someone purchases an item deemed illegal, they are urged to turn them in to the police without fear of repercussions.

Failure to act regarding possession of certain items, such as prohibited weapons like flick knives, nunchuka sticks, switchblades and guns, is a criminal offense, police warn.
