Greater Sudbury Police say they've spoken to a young man at the centre of rumours of a supposed planned March 29 shooting St. Charles College, and he said he has no intention of going to the school or shooting anyone.

"Officers attended the residence of a young man and spoke with him and his guardian," said a press release issued by Greater Sudbury Police Thursday. "The young man and his guardian indicated that he does not have access to a firearm. The young man also indicated that he was unaware of the recent social media activity surrounding him."

Police say the rumours involved a "kill list" and a potential shooting during mass. However, police say no physical evidence of this kill list was ever located by school administration.

They say while they're taking the situation "very seriously," and are investigating, they'd like to take the opportunity to reassure staff, students and parents. "There will be a police presence at St. Charles College throughout the day today as a precaution and in order to ensure that staff and students feel safe," the press release said.

In the wake of reports that a St. Charles College student allegedly threatened violence against staff and students today, Greater Sudbury Police say there's “no credible threat.”

“Essentially, a student or a young person made a comment quite some time ago that has been blown up over the last little while,” said Staff Sgt. Peter Orsino, when contacted Thursday morning.

Although police don't think the threat is credible, they are investigating and will have a “high presence” in the St. Charles College area today, Orsino said.
