Police issue warning about phone soliciting scam

The Greater Sudbury Police Service has been made aware that at least one individual is soliciting (via phone), for funds to support a Child Pornography Task Force.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service has been made aware that at least one individual is soliciting (via phone), for funds to support a Child Pornography Task Force. Our Service is unaware of any such campaign and does not support or endorse any such soliciting.

Residents are urged to be cautious when receiving such phone calls, do not succumb to any form of pressure tactics and when in doubt ask for a contact name and number then start your inquires from there.

Remember if you have organizations that you wish to donate to YOU can seek them out as opposed to responding to a phone call from someone you don?t know.

Meanwhile, Greater Sudbury Police is concerned about growing vandalism of Greater Sudbury Transit shelters.

Since January 2003, Sudbury Transit has endured over $50,000 worth of vandalism to glass bus shelters throughout the region.

The type of glass that is used is designed to shatter on impact and therefore not impose an additional hazard to anyone in the area in cases of ?accidentally being broken?.

Unfortunately there is a small segment of society that thinks traveling around and striking the shelters with various types of projectiles is harmless fun.

The average cost to repair damage is $600 and the vandalism causes the potential of people, especially small children, getting injured, say police.

Anyone observing this type of vandalism is asked to call police at 675 9171 or Crime Stoppers at 675 TIPS.
