Greater Sudbury Police say a number thefts from vehicles have been reported to police over the past several days and they're urging members of the public to take extra precautions.

Suspects have removed compact discs, electronics, jewelry, wallets, credit cards, money and a family's pet dog from public parking lots and private driveways in the past few days, say police.

For most part, people understand and respect what is in a vehicle is the property of its owner.  Unfortunately, some individuals do not believe in the same values and prey on unsuspecting victims, say police.

Thieves are opportunists and will make their rounds until they locate vehicles left unattended and unlocked.
Police share these preventative tips:

* Keep your vehicle locked at all times, even if you plan on going out again;

* Don't leave any valuables in plain view. Place them in the trunk of the vehicle or conceal them if they must remain inside.

* When possible, park your vehicle in a well-lit area;

* Report suspicious activity to police and provide as much information as possible.
