Greater Sudbury Police were out in full force this weekend, engaging in a number of enforcement initiatives aimed at 30 geographical areas of concern in the city.

As part of the RIDE initiative on Dec. 9, officers stopped 751 cars, charged two people with impaired driving, handed out eight 12 hour suspensions and charged one rookie driver for having a blood alcohol level above zero.

Over the course of the weekend, officers also charged 127 people with speeding (the majority of offenders were caught driving between 30 and 40 km/h over the speed limit), charged 10 people for failing to disobey a lawful sign, two people for driving without a licence and charged three people for not wearing seat belts.

Police are reminding motorists to drive with care on the road and to drive sober.
