In light of unpredictable weather conditions in the autumn months, Greater Sudbury Police are warning motorists not to drive like the 30-year-old woman they caught for speeding and driving through a red light on Barrydowne Rd. Oct. 16.
According to police the vehicle was doing 101 km/h in a posted 50km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the woman was given three summons to appear in court where she could receive in excess of $5,500 in fines.
Police are reminding drivers that during the evening hours, roads can become hazardous when the temperature drops. Here are a few tips:
- Keep a safe distance of at least five seconds between other vehicles and trucks that are plowing the road.
- Avoid driving when you're tired.
- Drive economically and use a light foot on the accelerator pedal.
- As winter approaches, take extra care when driving on icy roads and watch for hard to see patches of black ice.
