Police report few charges through Operation Impact

Greater Sudbury police, this past Thanksgiving long weekend, stepped up its presence on the roadways and conducted several RIDE checks throughout the city. The message was drive safe and drive sober, and the results indicate that the message is getting through.

A total of 819 vehicles were stopped on Oct. 9 and 10, resulting in three 3-day licence suspensions, 21 demands for breath samples, two people charged with not having insurance, one person charged with failing to provide proof of insurance, and 21 highway traffic act charges.

Through other traffic stops over the long weekend, police laid an additional 126 charges for speeding, no seatbelts, and various other offences.
