Preliminary investigation reveals cause of Highway 17 collision

The preliminary investigation revealed that, for unknown reasons, a westbound car crossed the centre line and broadsided an eastbound pickup truck. As a result of the collision both involved persons were injured.  The male driver of the car, was taken to St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Sudbury with life threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.  The driver of the pick up truck suffered minor injuries.

Road and weather conditions were not a factor in the cause of this collision.

Highway 17 was closed for a period of approximately 7 hours then opened to one lane while officers, with the assistance of an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator, continued their investigation.  The highway reopened at 10:45 am on Thursday, Feb. 14.
