Prisoner lights blanket on fire: police

After being arrested and lodged in a cell at the Greater Sudbury Police Headquarters, a 43-year-old man lit a fire, a police release stated.

At roughly 3 a.m. on Jan.17, a fire was discovered in the cell, which was occupied by the man and three others.

All four prisoners were evacuated as a result of the smoke.
The fire was extinguished quickly, the release stated.

All four prisoners were transported to the St. Joseph’s hospital and cleared, medically.

The male has been charged with three counts of arson endangering life as the investigation revealed that the accused lit a blanket on fire in his cell, the police release stated.

He is being held in custody pending a Bail Hearing on Jan.18.
