Val Caron man earns himself three Highway Traffic Act charges

A Val Caron man has three motor vehicle-related charges laid against him on March 18 after being caught speeding on Highway 108 in Elliot Lake.

At around 4:50 p.m. on March 18, East Algoma OPP officers were on patrol on Highway 108 when they spotted a vehicle travelling in excess of the posted speed limit.

Radar readings confirmed that the driver was speeding and officers pulled the vehicle over. 

During the traffic stop, investigation also revealed that the validation tag was expired and the vehicle was not insured. As a result, the driver was charged and the vehicle was towed.  

The 35-year-old was charged with:

  • Operate motor vehicle on a highway - no insurance
  • Drive motor vehicle - No validation on plate
  • Speeding (1 - 49 km/h) over the posted limit 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 2.
