Greater Sudbury Police are advising motorists to expect traffic disruptions in downtown Sudbury this evening due to a protest against the Kinder Morgan Pipeline project.

The protest begins at 6 p.m. and will end at around 8 p.m.

Protesters will gather in the CP parking lot on Elgin Street, across from the Sudbury Arena. They'll hold a round dance at the intersection of Van Horne and Paris streets, continue along Paris, and then hold another round dance at the intersection of Paris and John streets.

Then they'll return northbound on Paris Street and end up back on Van Horne Street. Participants will then line up on the sidewalk on the Bridge of Nations, and hold a candlelight vigil.

The federal government will make a decision next month on whether to allow Texas energy giant Kinder Morgan to twin its existing pipeline, with three times as much crude oil moving every day.

The controversial $6.8-billion project would link Alberta’s oil sands with Metro Vancouver’s harbour.
