RIDE check results in six charges

Greater Sudbury Police stopped 492 vehicles during a RIDE check held on Saturday, Nov. 7, in an attempt to detect and stop impaired drivers. Of the 492 vehicles stopped, 17 drivers were given roadside demands to provide breath samples.

Greater Sudbury Police stopped 492 vehicles during a RIDE check held on Saturday, Nov. 7, in an attempt to detect and stop impaired drivers.

Of the 492 vehicles stopped, 17 drivers were given roadside demands to provide breath samples. No suspensions were laid.

Six charges relating to highway traffic act violations were laid, and an impaired driving charge was laid outside of the RIDE check on Sunday.

In October, 18 people were charged with impaired driving, and five people received three-day suspensions.

Greater Sudbury Police will continue to hold periodic RIDE checks throughout the year in an effort to reduce impaired driving in the community.
