Members of the Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision, which occurred on Highway 17 between Sudbury and Coniston yesterday (Tuesday) about 3 pm.

Provincial Police had to close the highway for approximately six hours while the on-scene investigation.

The initial investigation revealed that the driver of an eastbound mini van lost control crossing into the westbound lane. Two westbound vehicles took evasive action, however the van struck a westbound pickup truck.

A passenger in the mini van, Marie Phillips, 75, of Sundridge was killed as a result of the collision. Both involved drivers were transported to St JosephÂ?s Health Centre and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing, however charges are not anticipated.

Scott Patterson, 34, who skipped Northern OntarioÂ?s team in the 1994 and 1999 Brier curling championships, died of complications suffered in an accident which occurred Friday night on Highway 17.

Kyle Thomas Manuel, 19, of Lively, was killed in an accident about one kilometre west of Long Lake Road.
His car crossed the centre line and hit a transport.
He was pronounced dead at St. JosephÂ?s Health Centre Saturday.

OPP officers responded to a three-vehicle collision at the same location as Patterson collision Sunday at approximately 1 pm.

An eastbound vehicle driven by a Wahnapitae senior lost control on black ice, crossed the centre line and struck two vehicles.

The driver and his wife were taken to St. Joseph General Hospital by ambulance. They suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. Another driver was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was treated for minor injuries.
