Several drunk drivers, collisions over Easter

Sudbury and Espanola OPP were kept busy over the Easter weekend, issuing 33 speeding charges, 17 miscellaneous Highway Traffic Act charges and two liquor license act charges.

They also responded to nine motor vehicle collisions, one resulting in fatal injuries, a single vehicle roll-over where the driver suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries and the collisions involving wildlife.

A 45-year-old Henvey Inlet First Nation man was charged April 10 at around 4:10 a.m. with impaired driving, over 80 and two counts of driving while under suspension after the Sudbury OPP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Regent Street.

The OPP stopped the vehicle on Highway 69.

A 20-year-old Sudbury man was charged April 10 at around 11:55 p.m. with driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available and speeding.

He was also issued a 12-hour license suspension.

A 28-year-old Sudbury man was charged April 11 at around 1:30 a.m. with impaired driving, over 80 and possession of marijuana as a result of a spot check by the OPP on Highway 69 at the Highway 17 bypass.

The man is due to appear in court May 20.

An 18-year-old Chelmsford man was charged April 12 at around 2:10 a.m. with driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available after the OPP conducted a spot check on Highway 144 in Chelmsford.

The OPP conducted a roadside breath sample on the man. They also issued him a 12-hour driver's license suspension.
