A female is in police custody after shoplifting at the New Sudbury Centre and dragging a security officer with a car, which was also reported stolen.

Police arrived at the New Sudbury Centre on Saturday after Sears security noticed the shoplifter. However, the female fled from the store to a car, then drove off partially dragging the security officer.

A short time later police spotted the vehicle westbound on the Kingsway and attempted to stop the driver. She failed to stop and entered into the Millennium Center lot, at which time police discontinued the pursuit.

The stolen vehicle was abandoned at Costco, and later recovered by police. A female matching the description of the driver was located a short distance away at the Shell station on the Kingsway.

She is now in custody facing several criminal charges including dangerous driving, flight from police, theft over $5000, and possession of stolen property. She is being held pending a bail hearing.
