Snowmobile operator succumbs to injuries in hospital

A 38-year-old Niagara Falls man died yesterday following a collision with his snow machine while on a trail in Powassan.

A 38-year-old Niagara Falls man died yesterday following a collision with his snow machine while on a trail in Powassan.

Vance Shermet was travelling with his father and a friend, and was the lead snow machine, heading north on the trail parallel to Highway 11.  As he crested a hill he lost control of his 2004 Yamaha and rolled, coming to rest at the bottom.  He was transported to North Bay General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:40 am and is being investigated by the Powassan detachment with the assistance of Technical Traffic Collision Investigators PC Andrew Hirst and John Gallagher, along with members of the Forensic Identification Unit and North Bay Traffic and Marine Unit officers.
