A speeding driver in Azilda had his drive end in injury and charges after he lost control of the vehicle and struck an ambulance and another vehicle in the afternoon of Feb. 1.

Around 4:15 p.m., a vehicle sped by an officer of the Greater Sudbury Police who was doing mobile radar scans on Municipal Road 35.

The driver was clocked as doing 137 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver made eye contact with the uniformed officer as he passed him.

The vehicle was seen continuing at a high speed, passing vehicles on the right, before turning onto Montee Principale.

There, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck an ambulance that was stopped at the stop sign. The vehicle was going so fast it continued and struck another vehicle at the intersection before coming to a stop.

According to the Greater Sudbury Police, damage to all vehicles was extensive, and occupants of all three vehicles suffered minor injuries.

A 44-year-old man was arrested and will appear in bail court Feb. 2, to answer to charges of stunt and dangerous driving. His licence was suspended for seven days.
