A woman was stopped by Greater Sudbury Police after they caught her speeding on Regent Street and trying to send a text message on her cell phone simultaneously April 5 at around 10:55 a.m.

She was pulled over and charged with driving at 97 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, and advised about the consequences of texting and operating a motor vehicle at the same time.

"The Greater Sudbury Police service would like to take this opportunity to remind the motoring public that is is not a recommended practice to use a cell phone and operate a vehicle at the same time. It has been proven that this action can lead to collisions," stated a police press release.

"It should also be noted that there is proposed legislation at a provincial level to make such an act an enforceable action."
