Greater Sudbury Police laid several charges after conducting spot checks during the evening of July 7.

A total of 135 vehicles were stopped. Three of those drivers had allegedly been consuming alcohol. These drivers took roadside screening tests, and were issued three-day license suspensions. They had their vehicles towed at their own expense.

While the officers were changing locations, they encountered two vehicles being driven erratically.

When police tried to stop the first vehicle, the man driving it slowed to a stop, and then ran from the vehicle into a nearby swamp area.

A dog was used to track the man, and he was found in the swamp. An 18-year-old man is facing charges related to driving without a license and vehicle insurance, as well as other charges.

Another vehicle was observed running a red light at a high rate of speed on Lasalle Boulevard at the entrance to College Boreal.

The vehicle was stopped. Police say the 32-year-old driver had been drinking.

The man was given a roadside screening test and failed. He was brought to police headquarters and took more breath tests.

He has been charged with having over 80 mg of alcohol in his blood while driving, along with using unauthorized plates and driving without insurance.
