Sudbury police second-best at solving murders

Over the past 30 years, Greater Sudbury Police have solved 96 percent of the city's homicides, the second highest rate in Canada.

According to a homicide survey released by Statistics Canada, which tracked homicide rates in cities with a population of at least 150,000, Greater Sudbury Police have solved 96 percent of the city's 99 homicides dating back to 1976.

London topped the list, solving 97.8 percent of the city's 139 homicides. Police forces in Niagara, Durham and Winnipeg round out the top five cities in the country.

The police force in Montreal recorded the lowest rate (65.4 percent) but they've also had 2,003 homicides in the past 30 years, far more than any other city. Police in Toronto have solved 78.4 percent of the city's 1,748 homicides.
