Suspicious death in Hanmer

Police have identified a man who was found dead inside a Hanmer home early Saturday morning as 30-year-old Brian Beland of Quebec.

A post mortem was conducted on Saturday and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the death. Inspector Todd Zimmerman with the Greater Sudbury Police Services said the coroner has his initial speculation has to how Beland died, but that he needs to do more testing to confirm the cause of death.

Police were called to the home for a disturbance call just after 3 am on February 7. Police and paramedics responded an found an unknown male deceased inside the home. 

Beland did not reside at the home and was reportedly confrontational with the occupants.  There is evidence that he had assaulted one of the residents. 

The Forensics Unit is continuing to collect evidence and so the scene is still contained.
