A jury in Medicine Hat, Alberta., has found a 13-year-old girl guilty of three counts of first degree murder of Marc, Debra and eight-year-old Jacob Richardson.

Marc Richardson is originally from the Greater Sudbury area. He and his son were buried here after the bodies of the family were found in their home in April 2006.

The teenager is believed to be the youngest Canadian ever charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder. She was 12 at the time of the brutal knife killings.

She will be back in court in August for sentencing  after psychiatric and psychological testing.
The young girl faces a maximum of six years in custody and four years community supervision.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the maximum sentence for first-degree murder is 10 years, but incarceration can be no longer than six years. The girl, who was in Grade 7 at the time of murders, was just old enough to charged with a criminal offence.

Her boyfriend, Jeremy Steinke, now 24, is also charged with three counts of murder. If found guilty, he could face a life sentence with no parole for 25 years.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 19.

Marc Richardson, 42, was an energy industry worker. He was stabbed 24 times. His wife, Debra, 48, a holistic healing practitioner, was stabbed 12 times. Jacob showed signs of strangulation and was stabbed five times.

The girl's defence lawyer maintained the boyfriend acted alone in the killings. The jury did not believe her testimony, and agreed with the Crown's argument that she was involved in planning the deliberate attack on the Richardson family.

Testimony at the trial revealed she boasted about the event in letters she wrote from jail to her boyfriend.
