UPDATE - Greater Sudbury Police have charged the cyclist with failing to wear a helmet and the driver of the mini-van with starting from a stopped position not in safety.

Further investigation has revealed the cyclist was heading west, and ran into a southbound mini-van.

The cyclist received head injuries that were compounded by the fact that she was not wearing a helmet. She was treated at the hospital and released.

"The Greater Sudbury Police Service would like to take this opportunity to remind cyclists to wear their helmets," stated a police press release.

"In addition, it is also important to advise motor vehicle operators to be aware of cyclists using the roadway."

A 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries after she collided with a vehicle while riding her bicycle at the intersection of Elmview Drive and Jeanne D'Arc Streets in Hanmer.

The road was closed temporarily to document the evidents. The investigation is continuing, and charges against the driver of the involved vehicle are anticipated.
