As a result of the collision July 11, the memorial that was erected on the side of the road was knocked down a roadside embankment.

A month after a fatal crash took the life of two teens on Highway 17 near Markstay, a second collision has taken place on the same stretch of highway.

According to community services officer Michelle Coulombe with the Ontario Provincial Police, two teenage girls were hit by a passing car while they were visiting a roadside memorial for Bruce Savard and Jodie Tremblay, who were killed in a head-on crash June 10.

At approximately 12:10 am Tuesday (July 11) a car travelling east crossed the centre line pulled over to the side of the highway on the opposite side of the road. The two girls inside parked the car facing on-coming traffic with the car's high-beam head-lights on.

According to the OPP the car was parked half on the shoulder of the road and half on the westbound lane of traffic.

While the girls were attending the memorial site, another car travelling west saw the girls' car with its high-beams on. Not knowing whether the car was parked or driving towards him in the same lane, police said the driver swerved to avoid the car. In doing so, he hit the two girls.

The girls, both 19, were taken to hospital and are in serious condition. The driver of the other car, a 48-year-old man, wasn't injured in the collision but his passenger, a 25-year-old man suffered minor injuries.

The OPP are continuing their investigation and charges are pending although police won't confirm who is likely to be charged.
