Three dead in accident west of Blind River

An accident 17 kilometres west of Blind River on Highway 17 early Jan. 13 has claimed three lives, report the Ontario Provincial Police.

According to the police, the accident happened after a westbound tractor trailer crossed into the oncoming lane, striking an eastbound tractor trailer head on.

Balwinder Singh of Brampton, 32, and Balvir Singh of Montreal, 44, were in the westbound tractor trailer and were fatally injured.

Stanley Spurr of Nairn Centre, 45, who was driving the east bound vehicle, was also fatally injured.

The highway was completely closed between Iron Bridge and Blind River starting around 6:30 a.m., and re-opened to one lane in the afternoon. As of 3:40 p.m., the highway is still open only to a single lane of traffic as clean up continues.
