Tobacco charges filed

The Sudbury and District Health Unit has released the names of individuals convicted of selling tobacco to people under the age of 19.

Those convicted in Sudbury are Luigi Tarini, operator of Cara?s Convenience Store, Daniel Woodliffe, sales clerk of Cara?s Convenience and Steve Ferguson, operator of Fergies Convenience Store.

The charges are a result of compliance checks carried out in October, November and December of last year on 68 tobacco vendors in the City of Greater Sudbury, Manitoulin Island, Espanola, Massey, Gogama and Chapleau.

First offenders can face fines up to $2,000 on conviction. On any subsequent conviction within any five-year period, storeowners automatically lose their right to sell cigarettes for a six-month period. For more information about compliance phone 522-9200 ext. 218.
