The third annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Toll for Special Olympics was held in Sudbury on Saturday, March 22, and proved to be a great success. The total amount of monies raised during this event was $16,821 and will be donated in whole to the Special Olympics of Ontario organization.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service would like to give special thanks to all the volunteers who came out on such a cold and blustery day, offering up their time for such a worthwhile cause. These volunteers include both uniform officers and civilians from the Greater Sudbury Police Service, the OPP, members of the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, police foundation students from Cambrian College and especially the Special Olympians themselves.

Special thanks also are extended to Riocan Properties and Costco for allowing the event to take place on their properties and to the City of Greater Sudbury Transit Services for assisting in counting the money.

“On behalf of all the Special Olympians, a heartfelt thank you goes out to all the individuals who not only offered donations, but positive encouragement during the day to keep everyone smiling,” said Sgt. Joanne Pendrak, law enforcement torch run coordinator, Greater Sudbury Police Service.
