Traffic cops busy over long weekend

Officers with the Greater Sudbury Police Service's traffic management unit were kept busy over the long weekend, laying a total of 39 charges.

Over the course of the weekend, 15 people were charged for speeding, two of which were charged for going 49 km/h over the speed limit. Two people were charged with careless driving while another 19 were charged for breaking various Highway Traffic Act violations.

One person was charged with operating an off-road vehicle on Bodson Dr. and was hit with approximately $400 in fines. Police are reminding residents that off-road vehicles are not allowed on any road in the city.

Three people were charged with impaired driving over the weekend, one of which provided a sample of four times the legal limit.

Police have also been conducting spot checks of vehicles parked in handicap spaces without a permit over the past week, resulting in 18 charges.
