Traffic stop leads to drug charges for two travellers

Traffic stop on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls nets a cache of drugs, Ontario Provincial Police say

Two travellers from Bonfield wound up with charges following a traffic stop in Sturgeon Falls on Feb. 2.

Shortly before 3 a.m. that morning, Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police Detachment said in a news release that officers stopped a motor vehicle on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls.

Police didn’t provide any details on what led up to the eventual arrest, but OPP said officers launched an investigation shortly after initiating the stop.

“As a result of the investigation, two people were arrested. A search of the vehicle located stolen property and drugs suspected to be cannabis, oxycodone, methamphetamine and cocaine.”

A 44-year-old woman from Bonfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

A 43-year-old man, also from Bonfield, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 7, 2024, in North Bay.\
