Victim’s dad allowed to ask questions at inquest

The coroner’s inquest into the mining death of a man killed at Creighton Mine March 7, 2002, is expected to wrap up today in Sudbury.

The coroner’s inquest into the mining death of a man killed at Creighton Mine March 7, 2002, is expected to wrap up today in Sudbury.

Chad Lamond, 20, was employed by Moran Mining and Tunneling, which was doing contract work at CVRD Inco’s Creighton Mine, when he fell off a work platform and plunged several hundred feet down a shaft.

Lamond’s father, Robert,  has been allowed to question the witnesses at the inquest.

On Monday, the opening day of the inquiry, Assistant Crown attorney Karen Lische called four witnesses Monday including Lamond’s co-workers Robert Jordan and Roy Amyotte, who were both working with Lamond at the time of his death, supervisor (and relative) William Lamond and CVRD Inco manager Don Gibson to explain the processes involved in the job.

Lische is expected to call her remaining three witnesses today, which will include a safety professional, the officer who was present at the autopsy, and the officer who responded to the accident.
