Some wild driving through Hanmer has resulted in a 58-year-old Hanmer man being charged with blowing over .08, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

On Jan. 11, police received reports of a vehicle driving wildly on Notre Dame Avenue in Hanmer. Witnesses obseved the vehicle collide with several street signs, knocking them over and climbing onto snow banks.

The driver fled the scene and was trying to make his way back home, unaware that he was being followed by police.

As the driver arrived home and was attempting to enter his residence, police arrived and quickly determined that he was impaired. Tests showed that he was over twice the legal limit.
