Woman charged with impaired after running vehicle into ditch on Atikameksheng Anishnawbek First Nation

She was the lone occupant in vehicle, and was not injured in the incident

A 24-year-old Atikameksheng Anishnawbek First Nation woman has been charged with impaired driving-related offences after running her vehicle into a ditch on the First Nation in the Walden area.

A press release issued by the OPP said that at around 9:45 p.m. Aug. 18, officers with the Atikameksheng Police received a traffic complaint about a vehicle speeding on Nora Road in Atikameksheng Anishnawbek First Nation.

Officers located the suspect's vehicle in a ditch on Nora Road. The driver — the vehicle's lone occupant — was uninjured in the incident.

The woman was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the (CC) 

She is scheduled to appear in a Sudbury court Oct. 2.

The woman was also issued a 90-day Automatic Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle she was driving was impounded for seven days.
